Babies are supported in crawling and pulling themselves up to stand. They are soon assisted in taking their first steps towards learning to walk.

Sensory play is an important part of play within the Baby Blossom room. With a growing range of sensory equipment and activities, babies are beginning to engage their five senses in a highly innovative way. Playing with jelly, bubbles, treasure baskets, water and sand seems to be the favourite kind of sensory play with our babies. The babies love to relax within the cosy corner, watching the fish and different colours in the water bubble lamp on soft cushions.
The responsibilities of updating ‘Learning Journey’ folders and ensuring a baby remains settled at the nursery, is primarily within the hands of their keyworker. Each child is allocated a keyworker as they start being cared for at Rock Cottage Day Nursery.

Parents are encouraged to leave any comforters/blankets with their baby throughout the day. We believe that familiar scents and objects create a sense of ease as babies adjust to time away from their parents. We aim to build secure attachments by having the same, recognizable staff in the room. Weekly diary books are given out to parents, these include photographs of their children taking part in activities throughout the week.
‘Settle In Visits’ also offer a sense of reassurance to new parents, as change can be just as daunting to them as it is to their children. 30-minute taster sessions are available for parents to attend with baby, followed by sessions running from 9.00-11.30am for baby alone.
